The Doors were a rock band founded by Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek in Los Angeles, California, in 1965, and they were later joined by Robbie Krieger and John Densmore. They were known for their experimental lyrics and being one of the progenitors of psychedelic rock. They were the first American band to reach Gold and later Platinum status across 6 albums. After frontman Jim Morrison passed away in 1971, the surviving members of The Doors continued on for two more albums that were absolute failures with only one or two songs on each worth listening to. In 1978 they reunited for the album An American Prayer, which featured clips of Morrison recording his poetry in spoken-word with music accompaniment.
